The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on Katsina State legislators to quickly intervene to save the lives of no fewer than 33,504 malnourished children under five years recorded from January to August 2019 in Katsina State.
The call was made by the CISLAC programme manager on health, Ms Chioma B. Kanu, while delivering her speech at a one- day retreat for relevant committees in Katsina State House of Assembly on prevention and treatment of severe acute malnutrition as a child right issue, held at Three Star Hotel Dutse, Jigawa State.
She explained that, the legislators have a vital role to play in ensuring the release of funds to tackle the severe acute malnutrition in the state.
The figure was confirmed by the Nutrition Officer in the state, Alhaji Abdulhadi Abdulkadir while speaking to news men at the retreat adding that state government budgeted a huge amount for the procurement of RUTF.
He explained that, the Katsina State government partners with other international organisation apart of various programme to tackle the severe acute malnutrition in the state.
He said, the state government also embarked on enlightening the public on importance of using the local nutritious foods.
