Coronavirus: Gombe resident doctors suspend strike

Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Gombe State has decided to suspend it’s industrial strike action indefinitely due to the pandemic of coronavirus now a major concern globally.
The President of the association, Gombe State chapter, Dr. Saidu Alhassan made this known yesterday while briefing journalists at Gombe Specialist Hospital.
He said the association agreed to suspend its strike indefinitely during Congress held yesterday in Gombe with some top government officials in attendance.
While pointing out issues bedeviling the association, the president intimated government to do as much as possible to ensure that all their demands is met to avoid further occurrence.
According to him, it won’t be fair if doctors are not paid their allowances and are ask to go forefront to fight such pandemic that consume human on a daily basis.
The negotiation we had earlier with the government will continue which we believed there are men of integrity in government who are ready to put things on our table he said.
He thanked Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his understanding to key into their problems and called for negotiation under the leadership of the deputy governor, the Speaker Gombe State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government and the Chief of Staff Government House to dialogue with the association with a view to suspend the strike action for the benefit of the people in the state.
He warned that the association will not accept any victimization of its members if they resume work at 8:00am on Monday resulting to that there will be no mutual understanding among them.
