The African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the leadership of Nafiu Bala ,has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the Osun State governorship election.
The party also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for its conduct of the poll.
In a statement signed by the ADC National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, on Sunday, the party described Adeleke’s victory as a reflection of the choice of Osun voters.
Gombe said the outcome would strengthen democratic values and constitutional governance.
He also praised INEC for what he described as its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible election.
“The transparent exercise in which the election was conducted is a clear testament to INEC’s independence and its role as an impartial electoral umpire,” he said.
However, the party attributed its poor performance in the election to the choice of its candidate.
Gombe said the candidate was imposed by members of a coalition group operating under the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee.
He said the development alienated voters and weakened the party’s chances at the poll.
“The presentation of an unpopular candidate alienated the electorate and undermined the party’s prospects,” Gombe stated.
He assured Nigerians that the party would reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We will mobilise effectively and present credible and formidable candidates in the forthcoming 2027 general elections,” he said.
The party also congratulated the people of Osun State for participating in the electoral process.
It pledged to continue working towards strengthening democracy and constitutional governance in Nigeria.
