Police kills self, wife, landlady, 3 others in Ogun

Tragedy struck in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday morning when a Police Corporal identified as Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi attached to Ogun State Police Command went berserk and killed no less than seven persons including himself and injured three others.

The incident took place at Aregbe area of Abeokuta in Odeda local government of Ogun State. Many sympathizers including the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye visited the venue of the ugly incident.

Among those killed was his wife, Corporal Oluwatosin Faremi, his landlady, the landlady’s two children, and an Okada rider who wanted to take his wife to her work place. He also shot himself.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi in a release said “the unfortunate incident occurred when the said Corporal, who had been having domestic conflict with his wife, shot and killed six persons, with his rifle, including his wife.

The said Corporal, having shot himself died immediately.

“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye described the incident as unfortunate and sympathized with the relations of the deceased and members of Akinbola Ifelodun Estate Eleweran, Abeokuta where the incident took place.

The statement adds, “The command has commenced a thorough forensic investigation into the killing and promised to make sure justice is done”.
