Soldiers cry out over non-payment of pension funds

A group of soldiers deployed to Borno state to battle the Boko Haram insurgents yesterday have accused military authorities of refusal to release their pension funds.

Spokesman of the aggrieved soldiers, who declined identification and spoke to newsmen on phone, alledged that it has been over three years now after the National Assembly had passed a resolution on the matter.

The complainants said the National Assembly has directed all pension funds administrators to refund each soldier their money, but till now were yet to be paid.

According to them, the amount of the money in questiob per personnel stood at about N120,000.

They argued that if paid, the money would go a long way in solving some of their family problems.

According to them whereas some of their colleagues in other military formations were paid since December, 2012, they have been neglected.

This, the military personnel said, has wordened their sufferings and that of the families.

They called on the National Assembly and President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently intervene into the matter and direct the military authorities to pay them their money.
