Stop giving protection to rapists, Mrs El Rufai tells community, religious leaders

Traditional and religious leaders, have been called upon to stop giving protection to rapists at the detriment of the rape victims.
The Wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajia Ummi El-Rufai, made the call when she took her campaign against rape and other gender based violence to Turukun, in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
She said, the un Godly practice of sweeping rape cases under the carpet, on the mere excuse of protecting the dignity of the victims must stop.
She said, cases of rape, especially of minors has assumed an alarming rate in Kaduna state, and the crime had continued because the perpetrators have been enjoying protection of community leaders.
Kaduna first lady also harps on the relevance of keeping girls in school , explaining that the existing law ensured by Governor El-Rufai that the withdrawal of any child from school before completing the free & compulsory basic education, is a consequential offense in the state.
“We are here in continuation of our campaign against rape, to meet you the community leaders, traditional, religious leaders, social mobilizers, youth and community influencers, to help us in this fight.
