COVID-19 pandemic: Why we fumigated school of nursing- FCTA explains

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has fumigated the FCT School of Nursing and Midwifery Gwagwalada, to ensure that the institution was safe from the Coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19 pandemic.
In particular, the disinfection of classes, offices and Hostels was recently carried out ahead of the school resumption of final year general examination.
This was disclosed by the Acting Secretary of FCT-HHSS, Dr. Mohammed Kawu, who was represented by Acting Director, Nursing Department of the HHSS, Mrs. Grace Leo Musa, during the fumigation exercise in the school.
Kawu stated that the FCT school of midwifery would also commence it examination in September immediately after the general examination of Nursing.
He noted that the school would fully resume when further directives is given by the federal government she explained.
He adds: “We feel that it is necessary that the environment and classes be decontaminated and fumigated for it to be safe for the examination to guide against the spread of any infection”.
He disclosed that approval has been for the decontamination of the school environment first, to allow the environment to be conducive and hygienic for the students, teachers and examiners who are expected to be in the school.
According to him, the school has put in place various measures to guide against the spread of COVID-19 as students resume for their Examinations, adding that approval to this effect has been put forward to the authority and had been approved accordingly.
On his part, the school principal, Mr. Lakereks James Kwali affirmed the school’s management readiness over the exercise and the commitment of the health Secretariat in the fight against the corona virus.
He noted that the Secretariat had provided all what was required to aid the resumption of the students of the school.
Kwali added that: ‘’ The HHSS has provided all that is required for the prevention of COVID-19, what we are waiting for is the directives of the federal government to allow the school fully resume.”
Also speaking, the Principal, School of Midwifery represented by Mr. Abana Lawan, the vice principal Administration stated that the exercise has further shown the seriousness of the Administration Malam Mohammed Musa Bello and his Minister of state Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu in curtailing the spread of the Corona virus pandemic in the Territory.
He also used the opportunity to appeal for the provision of solar panels to help in improvement of lighting in the school and ensure adequate security of the students and teachers.
Not left out, the hostel matron, Mrs. Safiyya Uthman further appealed for adequate water supply as the area has suffer inadequate water supply in the school sometimes.
