In order to keep the Federal Capital Territory clean, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has charged residents to imbibe the culture of cleanliness to enhance sanitation in their environment.

The call was made by the Acting Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Mrs Aishat Adeboye during a joint set- out special monthly sanitation exercise held in the FCT.

She said though the sanitation was without restriction of movement that did not mean that residents would not perform their civic responsibilities by cleaning up their environment.

She stressed that AEPB had set out on the exercise with a different focus; it included visiting places to clean up with enforcement arms in Garki area 1, and sanitising waste collection in areas of challenges by using equipment given by construction companies as part of their social responsibilities.

Adeboye said there was also mobile court sitting at Garki area 3 neighbourhoods to enforce abetment notice for those causing problems in the area and having an inspection at Kabusa. Adding that AEBP has been doing all that for a sustainable environment.

The Director also used the opportunity to notify the Abuja resident residents of the two weeks notification on adequate waste bin for the environment not to look degraded. In her words if residents are facing challenges from other residents who have nonchalant attitude towards sanitary of the environment to make it conducive, the complaint should be channelled to the AEBP.

She urged beggars, street hawkers and such people to leave the metropolis. “The AEPB and the government are working hand in hand to uplift status of Abuja in terms of its environment, for the wellbeing of residents” , she added.
