A Kuje Area Court in the FCT yesterday sentenced one Janedu Mohammed, a labourer, to two and half months imprisonment for criminal trespass and theft.
The Judge, Mr. Nuhu Ibrahim, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine and another N30, 000 to be paid to the complainant. The Police Prosecutor, Asp. Samuel Ochefu, told the court that one Haruna Magaji of Kuchiyako Village in Kuje, reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on Feb. 17.
The Prosecutor said that Mohammed of no fixed address entered the complainant’s farm and stole 200 pieces of yams, valued at N40, 000.
Ochefu said that during police investigation, it was discovered that the accused had been stealing the complainant’s yams in his farm for the past two years until he was caught recently.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code. Mohammed pleaded guilty to the offence. (NAN)
