NSCDC boss urges FG to sanction merchants of conflicts

The Commandant — General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC),Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has urged the Federal Government to sanction vendors and merchants of conflicts to serve as deterrent to others who have similar motives.
He stated this in his address at a capacity building workshop on early warning and early response organized by the Unted Nations Development Programme, (UNDP), in collaboration with Kaduna State Peace Commission, (KAPECOM) and the NSCDC in Kaduna.
The Commandant — General also urged that the War on illicit drugs be pursued seriously to deny the vendors the opportunity to recruit agents of destruction or willing tools.
The CG who was represented by Zonal Commander, Zone B Kaduna,Dauda Danlandi Munyandi, harps on effective collaboration between peace Initiative institutions and other stakeholders.
“Encourage community networking system family policing strategy, and engagement with traditional/religious institutions,Civil society organizations and peace initiative vendors.
“Provision of enable environment for youth employment and engagement into productive ventures. “He said Muhammadu, disclosed that the NSCDC as a grass roots security agency with a mandate to settle disputes from warring members of the public is committed to “walking the talk” in terms of encouraging early warning through intelligence gathering and public engagements.
He added that the corp is intensifying efforts as they evolve a human centric policing strategy. Working together with civil societies and other non state actors is of high priority to the Corps.
In her remark the Executive Vice Chairman Kaduna State Peace Commission Priscilla Akut said the workshop is a precursor to the formal launching of the Conflict Early Warning, Early Response System (CEWERS) developed with the support of the UNDP.
The CEWERS, according to her, will have the active participation of partners such as the NSCDC and other security agencies as responders; civil society and community-based organisations and actors, peace-loving citizens, the media and other relevant stakeholders.
