Jigawa Govt Sponsors 92 Lecturers for Postgraduate Programmes
The Jigawa State Executive Council, on Monday, approved funds for various projects in the areas of infrastructure, education, water, and power supply.
Details of the Executive Council meeting were made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Dutse by Sagir Musa, the state Commissioner of Information.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, approved the release of funds for the hosting of the 41st National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, the sponsorship for 92 lecturers to pursue Masters and PhD programmes in India, and infrastructure projects at Government Science and Technical College, Auyo.
The National Qur’anic Recitation Competition is scheduled to be held from 14–30 November 2026.
It is expected to promote Islamic education, national unity, and economic activities.
On the scholarship for the 92 lecturers who will study at the Integral University, India, ₦676.2 million has been approved as their tuition and ₦611.86 million as living allowance.
The beneficiaries are, however, expected to sign a five-year bond to render service to the state after graduation.
A total of ₦1.158 billion was also approved for infrastructure projects at Government Science and Technical College, Auyo, to improve technical and vocational education.
To enhance economic activities, improve transportation, attract investment, and boost tourism and jobs, the meeting approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Rano Air to begin scheduled Dutse–Abuja–Dutse commercial flights, immediately.
The state Executive Council also ratified the commencement of a novel registration of transit herders and agreed to set up a committee to develop a framework for registering transit herders returning from the Republic of Niger
The initiative is to reduce farmer-herder conflicts and improve livestock management, security, and public health.
Also approved during the meeting is the construction of a new palace for the Emir of Dutse at the cost of ₦2.771 billion.
According to the Executive Council, the project was approved to strengthen traditional institutions and preserve cultural heritage.
On water supply, the council approved ₦285.03 million for new generators to serve water stations in Birnin Kudu, Hadejia, and Kazaure so as to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
The meeting also approved ₦1.767 billion to procure 10 solar-powered de-flooding and mobile irrigation machines to improve irrigation, reduce flooding, and increase agricultural productivity.
It also ratified a major project on Climate-Smart Agriculture, approving ₦2.404 billion for the procurement of Geo-Plus Organic Fertiliser, Geo-Green Organic Fertiliser, Topper Growth Enhancer and Tree Growth Enhancer.
This is to support farmers facing high input costs and improve food production.
