Justice Valentine Ashi of the FCT High Court yesterday threatened to deliver judgment against a defendant, Prezzo Shed Investment Ltd., Abuja for failure to provide legal representation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Pearl and Diamond Properties Ltd., had in November, 2013 dragged Prezzo Shed Investment Ltd. to court over the issue of rent. The matter has to do with the renewal of rent for a two-bedroom flat apartment used for its office in Jabi, Abuja.
The judge, who said that the defendant was not represented by a counsel at the resumption of cross-examination, ordered them to file their defense document within seven days. The judge said that if the defendant failed to meet up with the seven days grace, they should be ready for ruling in the next hearing.
According to Ashi, the defendant is not showing much interest in the case as it has refused to present any legal representation since the beginning of the matter. He adjourned the matter to May 20 for continuation of hearing.
Earlier, Counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Egbo Ezikie, told the court that the defendant had not packed out of the building and had refused to renew their rent since it expiration in June 2013.
According to the counsel, the monthly payment of the apartment is N300, 000 and that the defendant owes the plaintiff the sum of N3.5 million for overstaying. Ezekiel said they were in court to recover the apartment and the rent. NAN reports that the defendant rented the apartment in June 2012. (NAN)
