2023: PDP calls Ebonyi Governor a political wanderer

Date:

  • ..Says he will remain in political wilderness

By Albert Akota

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) has tagged the Ebonyi State governor, Engr. Dave Umahi, as a political wanderer, saying that he would remain in the political wilderness until he returns to the party.
The PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Suleiman Nazif, said this on Monday in Abuja, while inaugurating the caretaker Committee for Ebonyi State chapter of the party.
The inauguration was attended by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, members of the National Assembly and leaders of the PDP from Ebonyi State.
Senator Nazif, who represented the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus at the inaiguration, pointed out that the Ebonyi governor was deceived into leaving the PDP, stressing that he would return empty handed from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umahi had defected to the APC, last week, attributing the decision to the inability of the PDP to be categorical as to whether it will zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South East or not.
But Nazif disclosed that the PDP has given the people of the South East several opportunities in the past and would continue to remain a safe haven for the people of the zone.
His words, “It is unfortunate, what has happened in Ebonyi State. A governor the people of Ebonyi, especially the PDP, worked extremely hard to make him win election.
“Unfortunately, he has been deceived. And he has left the home that he has always known. And now he is wandering.
“I can assure you that he will continue to wander and wander, until he comes back home.
“We were wondering why our former governor, the governor that left PDP and went to the wilderness, what is it that took him there?
I cannot see what he is doing there. I cannot see what the other side is going to give him that he does not have here. “Whatever they are going to give him, he had it here. The man is going to be finished. And he will come back here”, he said.
The PDP Deputy National Chairman (North) added that the plan of the APC is to edge out the opposition party from the South East, declaring that the ruling party will not be allowed to succeed.
According to him, “Let us not be deceived that because they technically took out our governor in Imo, we will allow them do the same thing they have done again in Ebonyi.
“We will work extremely hard. A tree cannot make a forest. And let them know that.
“Even in governance, there are people behind governors, there are people behind leaders. And those people will continue to remain in PDP. And this is a party that will continue to give you opportunities.
“This is a party that has given you opportunities in the past.
“The party will continue to give the Igbo people a sense of belonging,” Nazif stated.
