NIN registration: Applicants allege fraud by NIMC officials in Delta

Hundreds of applicants seeking to be registered for the National Identity Number ( NIN) have alleged fraud perpetrated by officials of the registration commission in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
This is coming as the National Identity Management Commission ( NIMC) Adopts Blocking System for NIN Enrolment by NIMC fresh guidelines for applicants to obtain their NIN.
In a statement,NIMC stated that” Effective December 30,2020 attending to applicants would be based on Blocking System for Bookings, applicants are to visit any of the NIMC offices close to them during stipulated business hours (. 9am – 1pm). once admitted into the office, a Number issuing queque management system will be in place to ensure orderliness and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols”. It was gathered that there was no booking system for applicants in Warri and Effurun offices of NIMC as the areas were newly rowdy with officials subjecting applicants to be part with money ranging from N3,000 to N5,000 before they were allowed the NIN’s enrolment form.
Specifically, at Effurun, investigation revealed that the Officials at the NIMC Office located at the Council Secretariat allegedly hoard the forms which they sell to the highest bidders.
It was gathered that many applicants who were at the council gate at the wee hours of the day were disappointed when the manager of NIMC in the council area shut the facility on account that there were no more forms.
