Date:

The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Tammy Danagogo has called on all well meaning Nigerians, Multi-national organisations and private companies to collaborate with the government in the development of sports through the window of sports sponsorship.

The Minister made this call yesterday in Abuja when a delegation from Global Telecommunication led by the Group Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mohammed Jameel paid him a courtesy call.

Whilst lauding the giant steps of globalcom in the sponsorship of football in the country, Dr. Danagogo noted that globalcom has regularly contributed to enrich the social development of the entire citizenry because sports is a veritable tool to be employed to engage more people from across the entire social and demographic spectrum.

He used the occasion to canvass for support from other private organizations noting that the current trend worldwide was for private organizations to collaborate with the government to develop sports as government cannot do it alone.

According to him, sport offers a ready-made and flexible platform that can be adapted to a wide variety of objectives by companies seeking to develop successful Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Minister further urged the Multi-nationals to continue in its stride to take sports to the next level pledging that the NSC will be evolving strategies that will promote a greater collaboration with the company.

Earlier in his remarks, the Group Chief Operating Officer Mohammed Jameel had stated that global com had made Football sponsorship their second business in Nigeria hence it will continue to be in the forefront in football sponsorship.

He stated that “as an integral part on the NSC, globalcom is aware that football runs through the veins of Nigerians and in order to identify with Nigerians we decided to go into football sponsorship and this we have been doing since 2003”.

He pledged the company’s continued loyalty to the goals and aspirations of the National Sports Commission. To this end, he revealed that the company would soon unveil a blue print aimed at garnering support for the national team even as they prepare for the World Cup in Brazil.
