The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally resolved that the South West Zonal Congress of the party be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 in Osogbo, Osun state capital.
The South West PDP, it will be recalled, had been bedevilled with a serious leadership crisis which culminated in the zone having two factions.
While a faction is led by the Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, with the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose.
The crisis had also made it difficult for the zone to agree on a venue for its congress.
The NWC of the PDP, after series of deliberations, has however fixed Osogbo for the holding of the South West zonal congress.
A statement yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the party’s national leadership has assured of working with all stakeholders to achieve a seamless and unifying congress of our great party in the SouthWest zone.
The PDP urged all leaders of the party, critical stakeholders and teeming members in the Southwest and the nation at large to be accordingly guided.
The main opposition party commended the spirit of understanding, unanimity and selflessness exhibited by its leaders and critical stakeholders in the South West in the deliberation of issues related to the zone.
The statement by Ologbondiyan reads, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after further comprehensive deliberations on issues of concern in the South West zonal chapter of the PDP, resolves as follows:
*That the South West Zonal Congress of our great party is scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2021 in Oshogbo, Osun state capital.
*The PDP national leadership assures of working with all stakeholders to achieve a seamless and unifying congress of our great party in the SouthWest zone.
It added, “The PDP urge all leaders of our party, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party in the Southwest and the nation at large to be accordingly guided.
“The PDP commends the spirit of understanding, unanimity and selflessness exhibited by our leaders and critical stakeholders in the South West in the deliberation of issues related to the zone”, the statement ended.
