Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has said any attempt to change the government of the country other than through the ballot box is treasonable.
Keyamo, on his Twitter handle, said no government will tolerate such an attempt to destabilize the country.
His statement is coming amid the burning of the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in some states and the alleged shooting of Political activist, Omoyele Sowore.
Recall that Sowore was on Monday injured by a tear gas canister fired by a police operative at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
He was preparing to hold a protest with some associates when the incident occurred.
Kayamo insisted that all arguments against a government should be geared towards persuading citizens to vote against the party, adding that any shortcut is an invitation to anarchy.
Keyamo on Twitter, wrote, “After long years of turbulent, military govts, Nigerians have agreed to adopt democracy as the best and only form of government. Any attempt to change a government other than the ballot box or other constitutional means is treasonable no matter how it is packaged in some sentimental jargon.
“All arguments against a govt should be geared towards persuading the citizens to vote against it at the next polls or invoking constitutional provisions through democratic institutions. Any shortcut outside these is an invitation to anarchy and no reasonable government will tolerate it.”
