The Taraba State Police Command has debunked a viral report alleging that a 24-year-old woman, identified as Maimuna, cut off her husband’s manhood, leading to his death in Gashaka Local Government Area of the state.
The command said preliminary verification by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Serti Division did not establish that the alleged incident occurred.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said the DPO commenced investigations after becoming aware of the report circulating on social media.
According to the statement, the police officer conducted an on-the-ground verification and made inquiries in Maigoje Village, Mai Idanu Ward, and neighbouring communities.
“The verification exercise did not establish the occurrence of the alleged incident, and the communities contacted did not confirm the claims contained in the publication,” the statement said.
The command added that it had no confirmed information to substantiate the viral report.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbeghagha, urged members of the public and media practitioners to exercise caution when handling sensitive information and verify reports before publishing or sharing them.
He also warned against the fabrication and dissemination of false information, noting that such actions could violate applicable laws and attract appropriate legal consequences.
The command advised the public to rely on verified information from credible sources rather than circulate unconfirmed reports capable of causing panic, damaging reputations or misleading the public.
