UBEC trains 8,090 primary school teachers

The Federal Government through the Universal Basic Education Commission in collaboration with Ogun  State Universal Basic Education Board  has commenced professional training for   8,090 primary school  teachers in Ogun state .

The government flagged off the 2017/2018 Teacher Development Programmes for 8,060  primary school teachers and 125 Federal Teachers Scheme participants.

The state Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr Femi Majekodunmi  said the  capacity building  programme was sponsored by the FGN/UBE Consolidated Fund,  adding that it was meant for teachers in the basic education sub sector.

Majekodunmi said this  at the flag off ceremony held at  the Nigeria Union of Teachers  hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.

He said the programme would equip the teachers with needed skills that would make their work impactful.

Speaking on the  theme, “Human capital development for quality service delivery in education,” he said the theme  was  well captured and highly useful for continuous development of the school system.

Majekodunmi said, “The trainings in the 2017/2018 programme include  early childhood care development education training for teaching pre-primary learners , jolly phonics designed to the problem of literacy, pre-vocational training to enhance the entrepreneurial skills among learners.

“The 2017/2018 TPD is an inclusive one, it beams its search light on the training of teachers of learners with special needs.”

The zonal director of UBEC, South West,  Alabi  Asaju  lauded  the synergy between UBEC and Ogun SUBEB in carrying out various planned basic education development programmes.

Asaju  urged the participants to be focused and pay rapt attention to all that would be taught at the training.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on primary and secondary Education, Mrs Ronke Soyombo commended the state government for the initiative.
