The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Organization(UNESCO) has launched a manual on eliminating sexual and gender-based violence, harmful practices and also enhancing sexual reproductive health rights for Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
The UNESCO Regional Advisor for higher education and ICT, Salifou Abdoulaye, during his speech at the launching in Abuja, explained that at the higher education level, gender based violence has drawn the attention of education policy makers, especially the worrisome issue of sexual harassment and sex for mark syndrome.
He stated that the activity which was implemented by International Society of Media in Public Health(ISMPH) was aligned with UNESCO’s vision of gender equality, saying that it is aimed at addressing issues relating to gender violence at the tertiary institution of learning.
He appealed to stakeholders to make the manual available to other universities within the sub region in order to curb the issues of gender based violence globally.
