The Federal Commissioner Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Mr. Ada Magbe has stressed that the Federal Government allocation from the Federation Account caters for several interventions.
It should be noted that the current revenue sharing formula showed that the Federal Government takes 52.6 percent, state 26.7 percent while the local governments have 20.6 percent.
Mr. Magbe was responding to calls by Governor Samuel Ortom who demanded for increase in allocation to the States to 40 percent, 21 percent to local governments, while the Federal government should take 35 percent.
Ortom adduced that the States and local govetnments are saddled with more responsibilities than the Federal government especially in areas of security challenges.
But the Federal Commissioner
RMAFC explained that out of Federal Government share, 48 percent is for Consolidation Fund, one percent for Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Develoment Resources one percent, Ecological Fund one percent and Stabilization Fund 1.5 percent.
He said there was recent ecological fund intervention in Gboko and urged the State to take advantage of several other funds for development.
Ada Magbe intimated that the Commission has commenced sensitization of Nigerians on review of the Revenue sharing formula following persistent calls by Governor Ortom and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
He added that it has become imperative in view of the present socio-economic realities, even as he called on Nigerians to always insist that the Presidency transmute the Commission’s report to the National Assembly for deliberation and passage.
