Sokoto APC elects executives through consensus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state at the weekend elected members of its executive council through consensus arrangement.

This notwithstanding the fact that election was held as required by the party’s constitution with a total of 1,620 delegates participating in the exercise which took place at the Shehu Kangiwa Stadium of the state.

All the candidates vied for the positions of the executive council were returned unopposed. A serving commissioner in the state, Alhaji Bala Abubakar emerged as the party substantive chairman.

Also, a former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Aliyu Wamakko’s close associate, Alhaji Aminu Sokoto, was returned as the party Secretary.

Others elected include Alhaji Usman Danmasani Isa, Vice Chairman, Abdullahi Shehu as Assistant Secretary, Hon Monir Moh’d as Legal Adviser, Muktahr Maigona as Treasurer, Abbas Ahmed Gandi as Financial Secretary, Aminu Liman as Organizing Secretary and Hajiya Fatamah Kangiwa as Women Leader, Nasir Italy as Youths Leader and Alhaji Sidi Aliyu Lamido as Publicity secretary.

The state congress was attended by the leaders of the party in the state which include the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as well as all members of APC from both State and National Assembly.

The motion to adopt a consensus arrangement for the congress was moved by a Senator representing Sokoto East zone, Ibrahim Gobir and seconded by another lawmaker, Hon. Aminu Shagari representing Yabo/Shagari federal constituency.

Speaking at the event , the chairman of the state congress committee, Barrister Baba Dalla described the election as modest and transparent which should be emulated.

According to him, “the consensus build up is modest and transparency. It is in accordance to the rules and regulations of the party that guide congress.”

In his comments, Wamakko advised the new party executives to imbibe true leadership qualities and values, adding that they should accommodate and engage all in true spirit of inclusiveness.

He further described APC as a national party that is set to capture all elective positions from councilor to thePresidency in the forthcoming elections.
