2027: Barau moves to consolidate APC support base in Kano North, seeks unity behind Tinubu, Abba

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has intensified efforts to strengthen political unity within Kano North Senatorial District, urging party stakeholders to close ranks and mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.

Barau made the call on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving two separate delegations from Dambatta Local Government Area, a development that highlights the growing importance of internal cohesion as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Deputy Senate President particularly praised former three-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji, for stepping back from his legal challenge to the outcome of the APC primary for the Dambatta/Makoda Federal Constituency.

Maidaji, who initially challenged the primary result in court, eventually withdrew the case after an appeal from Barau and pledged to continue working within the APC.

Barau described the decision as a demonstration of political maturity and a necessary step towards preventing internal disagreements from weakening the party ahead of 2027.

“The decision by Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji to withdraw the case and continue to work with the party is a testament to the maturity and unity we must uphold,” Barau said.

He added that the development would strengthen the APC’s political structure in Dambatta/Makoda and reinforce the party’s collective efforts across Kano North.

The intervention comes as political parties and their stakeholders increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with control of Kano’s political space expected to remain a major electoral battleground.

Barau also used the meeting to rally his constituents around the APC leadership, calling for sustained support for President Tinubu, Governor Abba Yusuf, himself and other party candidates seeking elective offices in 2027.

“I therefore appeal to all of us to remain united. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, myself as your Senator, and all candidates of the APC contesting the 2027 elections,” he said.

The Senator stressed that political differences should not be allowed to undermine the development of Kano North, urging party members and political actors to place collective interests above individual ambitions.

The second delegation, led by Barau’s Senior Legislative Aide in Dambatta, Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Bayero, visited to commend the senator for projects, empowerment programmes and other interventions across the district.

Barau used the occasion to highlight his constituency interventions in education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic empowerment, saying they were designed to strengthen his political and developmental connection with constituents.

According to him, the initiatives include monthly provision of N100,000 startup capital to 1,300 petty traders, artisans and other beneficiaries, alongside the distribution of fertilisers, water pumps, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles, refrigerators and other support items.

“Our objective is to ensure that every household in Kano North has something meaningful to do and that our people become economically independent,” he said.

Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, assured constituents that his commitment to Kano North would remain unwavering.

He urged APC stakeholders to maintain unity, loyalty and cooperation, arguing that a united political structure would be better positioned to secure electoral victories and advance the interests of Kano North.

“With unity, loyalty, and collective commitment, we can achieve a more prosperous Kano North and a stronger Nigeria,” Barau said.
