The Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has called for thorough consideration for the passage of SERVICOM bill, saying it was crucial to Nigerians.

Gbajabiamila made the call on Wednesday in Abuja, at the public hearing on a bill for an Act to provide for the “Establishment of the Service Compact Management Agency (SERVICOM)”. 

“This bill is crucial legislation deserving of thorough consideration and reason to bait by the Parliament of the people acting in the peoples’ best interest.

“As legislators, acting in the peoples’ best interest is our main call, “ he noted.

Represented by Hon. Peter Akpatason, Deputy Leader of the House, Gbajabiamila noted that it was the responsibility of the house members to meticulously review and examine every aspect of the bill.

According to him, this is to ensure that it produces the final output that is clear in its objectives, thoughtful in its minding and reflective of the best aspirations of all Nigerians citizens 

Also,  Chairman House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Akin Alabi, noted that SERVICOM was established and dedicated to provide basic services to which citizens are entitled in a timely, fair, honest and transparent manner.

“SERVICOM is a Nigeria service delivery initiative, lauched in 2004 after the president and his cabinet signed the service compact with all Nigerians, declaring dedication towards providing basic services to which citizens are entitled.

“ While the agency might have a number of success pointer, there would be no greater stride towards ensuring the optimum effectiveness of this agency than putting the full weight or the law behind it, “ he noted.

In her remarks, National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli said bill which had passed through its second reading at the National Assembly would provide effective/comprehensive legal framework.

According to her there will be a legal backing to empower the agency institutionalise service delivery to customers and to ensure that work ethics are observed within Federal Government Agencies.
