Security guard bags 6 months jail term for stealing office furniture

A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court, on Wednesday sentenced a security guard, Dauda Caleb, 23, to six months imprisonment for stealing an office table and cabinet.

Caleb of Kubwa extension, Abuja was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.

He, however, begged the court for leniency.

The Judge, Mr Sulyman Ola, gave Caleb an option to pay a fine of N30,000, and warned him to desist from crimes and be of good behaviour.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Ifeoma Melody, reported the case at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on March 1.

Ogada said that the complainant entrusted an office table and cabinet worth N115, 000 to Caleb for safe keeping at his security post, sometime in November 2021.

He said that the complainant took a vehicle to convey the said items, but discovered on March 1, that Caleb had sold them out.

The prosecution counsel said during police investigations, Caleb confessed to have sold the items to an unknown person for N6,000.

The prosecution counsel said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
