From Mustapha Isah Kwaru, Maiduguri
The University of Maiduguri (Unimaid) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) yesterday cautioned the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the varsity, Alhaji Lawan Bukar Marguba against interfering with the selection process of the institution’s new vice-chancellor.
Rising from an emergency meeting held at the university, the union resolved that Alhaji Marguba should also be cautioned against what it termed as the governing council chairman’s interference with the ‘smooth’ functions of the council.
This was contained in a copy of the resolutions reached at the meeting, jointly signed by the union’s Chairman, Dr. Musa Abdullahi and Secretary, Dr. Ahmed Umar respectively.
“The ASUU Unimaid chapter held an emergency meeting on May 1, 2014 and discussed on governing council selection of the Unimaid vice chancellor.
It was resolved that the process of Unimaid vice chancellor should continue to its logical conclusion for deliberation and conclusion without further delay.
All other issues in contention should be brought before the full Governing Council for deliberation and conclusion, in line with University of Maiduguri’s rules and regulations”, the statement said.
