An Oyo State High Court has dismissed a suit filed by Rauf Olaniyan, the state Deputy Governor, seeking to stop his impeachment by the State House of Assembly.

The Oyo State House of Assembly had a few weeks ago initiated an impeachment process against the deputy governor.

Recall that Olaniyan later approached the court to stop the lawmakers from impeaching him.

The court has, however, dismissed the suit filed by the Deputy Governor.

The court presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola dismissed the suit on Thursday.

The court said that the lawmakers have the right to remove the Deputy Governor from office.

Akintola, while delivering his judgment on Thursday, insisted that the House of Assembly has not breached the provisions of the Constitution on the removal of a Governor or Deputy Governor.

According to Akintola, the lawmakers substantially complied with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution on the removal process.

The court said the lawmakers should continue with the removal process.
