To commemorate this year’s World Youth Skills Day in Abuja, the Secretary FCT Education Secretariat, Sani Dahir El-Katuzu, officially commissioned fashion hub supported by Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA), and flagged off a free skills acquisition training at FCT Department of Mass Education, Wuse Zone 6 learning Centre, in the nation’s capital city.
El-Katuzu also used the occasion to reiterate the FCT Minister’s resolve to significantly reduce youth restiveness and unemployment through requisite skills acquisition training for fHe advised the teeming youth and women all over the FCT to embrace this gesture by the FCT Minister, by tapping into series of skills acquisition trainings available at the Department of Mass Education.
According to a statement from Head, Public Relations Unit Department of Mass Education, Ojebola Farayola, the Secretary for Education emphasized the need for everyone to be skill-full to successfully actualise sustainable economic development.
On his part, AEA’s Managing Director, Mr. Shehu Abdulkadri, advocated for more emphasis on requisite skills acquisition which according to him remains the major panacea to poverty eradication in the country.
“The FCT Administration is making frantic effort to emphasize the importance of marketable skills acquisition training towards wealth creation and poverty eradication, and we are very happy with this partnership with DME, that is the only way to go about it.
“They have the facilities, we provide the machines; we are determined to work together to achieve the FCT free of poverty and youth restiveness”, he promised.
Earlier, the Director FCT Department of Mass Education (DME), Hajia Hajarat Titilayo Alayande had commended the commitment of the FCT Administration under the leadership of Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello to non-formal education as a very strong tool for job creation and poverty reduction in the FCT.
Alayande urged the relevant key players in the non-formal education sector to prioritize sustained and result-oriented synergy to wipe out poverty in the FCT.
“We are grateful to the FCT Minister for positioning the FCT to have a suitable platform for non formal education in all the Area Councils of FCT.
“If poverty must be a thing of the past in the FCT all the major stakeholders in informal education industry must place premium on sustainable synergy.
“We are here today with the Management of Abuja Enterprise Agency to put our resources together to move FCT forward.
“The agency is supporting us with more sewing machines so that we can expand our activities in all our centres.” She said.
In her remarks, the Zonal Coordinator AMAC, Mrs. Victoria Nwaogu expressed the Department’s delight for the donation, noting that the Department of Mass Education has learners with quality content and assured that they will utilize the opportunity given to them and make FCT proud.
