Hon Jonathan Asake, has formerly resigned his position as the National President of Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union, (SOKAPU), in order to pursue his ambition of contesting for the gubernatorial seat of Kaduna State under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
Asake, who has served as the National President of the Union for three years, said his desire to contest for the number one seat in the State is to rewrite the wrongs inflicted on the good people of Kaduna State particularly in the area of banditry, kidnapping and communal clashes.
He thanked the entire members of the Board of Trustee, National Executive Committee and staff of SOKAPU for the support given to him and urged them to extend the same to his predecessor, Mr. Dio Maisamari, who was formerly the Vice President 1 of the Union.
In his acceptance speech, the incoming Acting National President, Mr. Aweni Dio Maisamari, expressed the gratitude of the Southern Kaduna people to Hon Asake for his tireless leadership to ensure justice, and development is brought to the Southern Kaduna zone.
Maisamari declared that Asake is leaving a shoe too big for him to step in, but with the support of the BoT, NEC and other stakeholders he promised to take the Union to the next level.
The new SOKAPU National President wished Hon Asake success in his future endeavours in the political arena.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustee of SOKAPU, Mr. Stephen Bangoji, said in line with the constitution of the Union, which stipulated that no elected member shall be a card-carrying member of any political party, Asake has submitted his letter of resignation to pursue his political ambition.
He said the BoT accepted his resignation letter in good faith, and nominated the Vice President 1, Mr. Maisamari as his successor.
