The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has begun processes to clear a four-year backlog of 1,831 administrative staff members.

The board’s Secretary, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with the media  yesterday.

She said that the interviews would cover all administrative staff members who have been due for promotion from 2017 to 2020, across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

”This is to motivate the staff members to give in their best and contribute to the attainment of the overall mandate of the Board.

“If you are promoted, you will have the confidence to perform your duty as expected.

“We started yesterday with administrative staff at the headquarters, about 40 of them; from there we will be going to each of the local government education authority offices,” she said.

The board’s secretary, who could not explain what caused the backlog, explained that the current management of the board inherited the problem.

She, however, said that the board was doing all it could to clear the backlog and ensure that every staff that was due for promotion got promoted.

She said that a similar exercise would be conducted for the teaching staff members across the 23 LGAs.

On the backlog of promotions, Abdullahi said that the board was working with the Local Council Chairmen to ensure a seamless exercise in the implementation of the promotion of everyone who scaled the hurdle.

“This is a big issue for us following numerous complaints from both the teaching and non-teaching staff who have been promoted but with no commensurate rise in their salaries.

“In fact, one of my neighbours, particularly complained that she is on Grade Level 12 but collecting the salary of Grade Level 5.

“I want to assure all promoted staff awaiting implementation of their promotion and those that will be promoted that the board will pursue the issue of implementation vigorously after the exercise,” she said.

Also speaking, Mr Iliya Duniya, Director, Support Services, Kaduna SUBEB, commended the Executive Chairman of the board, Mr Tijjani Abdullahi for the efforts to address issues bothering on staff welfare.
