The Leadership of Senior Staff Union Colleges of Education in Gombe state has directed its students to remain at home as the Federal government has refused to meet their demands.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Gombe, the chairman of the union comrade Danladi Ali Msheliza who gave the directives during its congress meeting also said colleges of education in the country are mandated to train students to acquire Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in order to become teachers with sufficient skills of teaching to enable them teach at primary school level but yet are being denied their right.
“We there fore, wish to let Nigeria know that strike has never been part of us. In fact, since 1989, unions in colleges of education sector have never gone on an indefinite strike. We believe in dialogues but the federal government has severally failed to honor agreements with us” he said..
According to him, the migration circular that was approved by late President Umaru Musa Yaradua in 2010 was also denied by the government, stressing that only principal officers and chief lecturers
of colleges of education were migrated and paid their arrears of 20 percent since 2009.
The chairman also expressed sadness that the government went on media to lie to the world that it had made 50 percent offer of the migration arrears owed to staff.
He called on stakeholders especially His eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and CAN President to wade into the lingering crisis so that children can go back to school to enable us have future leaders.
