A group made up of Yoruba sons and daughters in the thirty six states of the federation and Abuja has appealed to the incumbent governor of a Kano state, Engineer Rabiu Kwankwaso, to contest for the 2015 Presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement signed by its National Secretary, Chief Folorunso Olusegun Olukorede and made available to newsmen in Kano, it urged the governor to contest for the coveted seat in 2015 because of his achievements in all facets of development in the state.

The Yoruba group stated that their decision was based on the meeting they held in the ancient town of Owo, Ondo state where all political variables were considered as it affect those jostling for the coveted post across the major political parties.

Olukorede in the statement listed the achievements of the governor which include infrastructural development, health, Housing, Agriculture, security, Transportation and education, noting that above all the free education policy declared by the governor recently and the sponsorship of over 2000 indigenes of kano state abroad for acquisition of knowledge has endeared him to the over 150 million Nigerians.

The group added that they want the governor to replicate his achievements in the state at the national level if elected, adding that all his programs were devoid of religious or tribal considerations.

“We have met all prominent Yoruba leaders to seek their advice and blessing and their response were collectively positive even with some of them describing Kwankwaso as the Awolowo of our time because of his unprecedented achievements,” he stated.
