The 7th Edition of the Nupe horse racing Derby (tournament) is said to have attracted more than a million spectators and racing enthusiasts across the world.
This, according to a statement released by Abdullahi Baba Yayaha Directortor, Public and Media Affairs of the tournament, was revealed a research carried out by IDEAL INDEX NETWORK (IIN).
According to IIN, the attendance Register shows that despite the electronic software used in documenting spectators at the Bida race course, the Derby was watched by over a million people.
It said its position was also validated by and Electroniccounter system used to have near perfect figures.
It said these numbers were from countries such as Niger Republic, Mali, Chad, Bukina Faso, Sudan, and observers from other African countries.
The 7th edition of Nupe horse racing Derby (tournament) was held-from 2nd – 6th Nov, 2022.
The statement added that: “Nupe Classic Racing Derby, as usual has been coming with innovations since inception the club has been scoring first in many angles, particularly in areas of policy reforms.
“It brings about the Anti Drugs Sensitize lectures at all tournament venue’s and facility upgrade, which includes the welfare of jockeys and horse handlers.”
The statement quoted Etsu Nupe Alh. Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, as urging Nigerians to support governments, policies, programme and projects at all level in their efforts to provide the nation with workable facilities in the areas of health care delivery and quality education and security.
The Etsu who is also the Founder of Nupe Torf Club and the President General of Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria (HRFN), also called on the youth to avoid any kind of civilization that contradicts their home training.
Similarly, a training academy for local jockeys was also approved for plateau Turf Club to commence the training of the youths to be professionals in the field.
The Chairman of the Club too delivery of the approvals in the presence of club officials, includeing the Secretery Haruna Isah Haruna and the Training Coordinator Mai Anguwa Kwalebe and Alh. Yawale Garba Na Vom.
The National Coordinator of Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria Sarkin Dawakin Nupe Alh. Abubakar Mustapha Bida expressed the federation appreciation to the Emir of Gwandu, the delegation from the Niger Republic.
As part of the highlights of the Derby was a meeting to discuss critical issues that affect horse racing.
