The Bauchi Accountability and Truth Awareness Front (BATA) has strongly criticised the recent actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), particularly the arrest of Alhaji Sirajo Mohammed Jaja, the Accountant General of Bauchi State.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its chairman, Lawal Sani Ningi, BATA condemned the EFCC’s allegations of a ₦70 billion fraud investigation, which has been linked to the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed.
The group described the probe as a politically motivated witch-hunt aimed at discrediting the state’s leadership and disrupting the administration’s progress.
“We stand firmly against the politicisation of anti-corruption efforts,” the statement read.
“The EFCC must conduct its investigations impartially and without bias.”
BATA called on the anti-corruption agency to provide concrete evidence to support its claims rather than relying on speculation and conjecture.
The group also urged the people of Bauchi State to remain vigilant and discerning, warning against the influence of sensational headlines and politically charged narratives that could derail the state’s development.
“The people of Bauchi deserve leaders committed to their welfare, not targets of politically motivated attacks,” BATA stated.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and truth in governance, expressing solidarity with Governor Bala Mohammed and other state officials.
BATA further urged the EFCC to reconsider its approach and focus on genuine anti-corruption efforts that uphold the principles of justice and fairness.
