Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Tuesday received a standing ovation from secondary school principals from all the 36 states of the federation as he announced the elevation of a school principal and immediate past National President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Chief Adeniyi Falade, to the position of Permanent Secretary.
The principals had gathered at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan for the 57th Annual National Congress of ANCOPSS which was declared open by Governor Ajimobi.
The request for the elevation of the former ANCOPSS President had earlier been made by both the National President and the Oyo State President of the organization, Hajiya Fatimah Abdul-Rahman and Mrs. Abigail Ojoawo respectively, while delivering their speeches.
They had based their request on the fact that most of the former National Presidents of ANCOPSS had been honoured with promotion to the post of Permanent Secretaries immediately they were through with the ANCOPSS assignment.
The governor, while delivering his speech, promptly announced Chief Falade’s elevation to the post of Permanent Secretary with effect from 15th of May, 2014, a development that drew wide applause from all the principals who attended the congress.
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and the development of education in the state, Governor Ajimobi said that the quality of education in the state had been improved upon through training and re-training of teachers, coupled with the introduction of extra-mural classes for senior secondary school students.
According to him, over 23,000 teaching and non-teaching staff in the state had been trained, while 30 per cent of the 2014 state budget was allocated to education.
He announced that the State Technical University would commence academic activities in September this year.
She lamented that even the N1.5 million the police authorities gave her, her husband’s relatives have taken a lion share out of the money, leaving her with almost nothing.
“We have since exhausted the money and we have to remove our children from a private school and enroll them in a public school. Life is really difficult without our husbands, we need government to help us with work” Happiness stated.
