Acting Regional Director of UNICEF’s West and Central Africa Office, Mr. Manuel Fontaine has reiterated the organisation’s commitment toward supporting girl-child education.
Fontaine made the remark yesterday, when he led a team on inspection tour to the beneficiaries of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Scheme at Liman Primary School, in Bakori local government area.
The Director expressed appreciation over the condition he met the beneficiaries, noting that the visit was to have direct contact with girls enrolled at the primary schools.
Fontaine further commended government involvement, adding that UNICEF promotes the rights and well-being of every child in every organisation’s activities.
According to him, such actions translated the commitment into practical action, having sustained focus on special efforts on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, for the benefit of all children.
The visiting team included the UNICEF country’s Representative, Jean Gogh, who conducted an interactive session with the pupils, facilitated by Hausa-speaking officials.
In her remark, the Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Shema on Girl Child Education, Hajiya Bilkisu Kaikai, expressed appreciation over the visit.
Kaikai said the visit served as encouragement to government officials, beneficiaries and their families, and presented pictures and other calendars to the visiting team.
She noted that the programme had yielded positive result in the enrolment of girl-child in schools and had impacted positively to people lives.
