The Federal Government has, Wednesday in Abuja, called on leading international social media platforms to join Facebook in controlling disinformation and fake news in the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria and beyond.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed gave the indication in his opening remarks at the 12th edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration scorecard series.
While commending Facebook’s commitment to ensure that no fake news gets published on its platforms which can compromise or undermine the electoral process, Lai Mohammed called on the other social media platforms to tow the line of Facebook to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s elections in 2033.
He described the gesture of Facebook as commndable, and expressed hope that it will deliver on its promoses.
