…seeks stronger cooperation on climate action, security
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway, Ambassador Lola Akande, has formally commenced her diplomatic mission to Denmark following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to King Frederik X.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, marking the official beginning of her diplomatic responsibilities in the Nordic country.
Following the presentation, Akande was received in audience by the Danish monarch, during which she conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the King, the Danish Royal Family, and the government and people of Denmark.
The ambassador reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Denmark, highlighting opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
She identified climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as key areas for deeper engagement between both countries.
Akande also commended King Frederik X for his longstanding commitment to global sustainability and climate stewardship, noting the importance of sustained international collaboration in addressing climate challenges and advancing shared development goals.
She further emphasised Nigeria’s strategic interest in its relationship with Denmark and expressed the country’s readiness to work with the Danish government, private sector and other stakeholders to broaden bilateral cooperation.
The presentation of the Letters of Credence is a formal diplomatic requirement through which an ambassador is officially accredited to a host country and authorised to undertake diplomatic responsibilities.
Akande is based in Stockholm, Sweden, where she serves as Nigeria’s ambassador, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway.
