Wada advises cassava consumers to patronize Vitamin – A variety

Consumers of varieties of cassava in the country have been urged to patronize the new variety of vitamin A fortified yellow cassava to boost their immunity system.

The Governor made the remark flagging off vitamin A fortified Yellow Cassava at Koton-Karfe the headquarters of Kogi Local Government Council of the state.

He stressed the need for continued research into means of providing agricultural crops with necessary vitamins that could enhance human nutritional value.

The Governor commended the management of the Washington DC Harvest Plus Agricultural Research Company based in Ibadan for its strive to ensure that varieties of crops were provided with the right nutrients that could boost human growth and prevent some diseases.

He described agriculture as a noble and profitable sector, assuring that his administration would key into the promotion of agriculture as a business oriented venture beyond the level of mere subsistence farming as he lauded the interest of the paramount ruler of Koton-Karfe, the Ohimege Igu of Koto, Alhaji Isa Koto in farming and urged other traditional rulers across the state to emulate him in their various domains.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Country Director of the Washington based Harvest Plus Agricultural Research Company, Dr. Paul Ilona stated that the initiative of promoting vitamin nutrients in crops is in line with the federal government’s directive to help in tackling deficiency in normal growth of the children resulting in lack of appropriate vitamins capable of preventing them not to fall prey of different kind of diseases.
