The Katsina state APC stakeholder’s forum has called for cancellation of the party’s ward congress in the state insisting that the exercise was marred with irregularities and disregard for laid down guidelines.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, the chairman of Katsina Forum, Alhaji Yazidu Ibrahim, said the congress was held in defiance to established party guidelines and in a disorderly fashion.
“In several instances where elections were deemed to have taken place, the elections never took place as in most instances; these congresses were marred by violence to the extent the results declared were actually a sham”.
Yazidu noted that what passed for congress in the state’s 361 electoral wards was marred with violence consequent upon which a lot of party members were disenfranchised noting “this state of affairs has caused tremendous damage to the claim by our party that it will be different”.
While citing instances of irregularities, Yazidu said: “Our observation is that these uneventful incidents could have been avoided
if party guidelines have been strictly adhered to” adding that the rancour was further compounded by aspirants to political offices.
He urged the national leadership of the APC to cancel the whole congress that are deemed to have taken place and order for fresh congresses throughout the state, insisting that doing such would further strengthen the confidence of the masses on the party.
The chairman, who was flanked by other members of the forum, assured that the group would explore all possible avenues in ensuring that there was remedy to what it termed irregularities so as to further reposition APC in the state.
Yazidu recalled that Nigerians see APC as the solution to myriads of problems confronting the nation and stressed that for the party to justify the confidence reposed in it by the masses, things must be done in an entirely different way from the ruling PDP.
