The Movement behind the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, under the auspices of Women for Justice in Nigeria, has said that the campaign was not aimed at undermining the efforts of the military in rescuing the abducted Chibok girls, but to enhance it and make it more robust in the fight against terrorism.
The Movement gave this indication while reacting to a statement by the Director of Defence Information of the Defence Headquarters, which alleged that the group distorted their reports on two meetings with Coalition of Civil Societies Group and projected the military in bad light.
The release further claimed that the group was trying to drag the military into politics.
Reacting to claims by the military, the Movement, in a statement issued by
Oby Ezekwesili, Hadixa Bala Usman and Jibrin Ibrahim said; “Far from seeking to undermine the efforts of the military, we are determined to enhance it and make it more robust and effective. Our concerns about the lack of results so far were aimed at motivating the military to more effective action.
“We wish to state unequivocally that our objectives were and remain to engage the military constructively to seek pathways towards achieving the collective objective of bringing back our girls”, the statement said.
