The Federal Government yesterday commended the people of Kalabalge in Borno state for foiling attempt by Boko Haram insurgents to attack their community.
Mr. Mike Omeri, Coordinator, National Information Centre, gave the commendation at a joint news conference, which was attended by the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police in Abuja.
Omeri said: “The federal government commends the Kalabalge people for moving ahead of the Boko Haram to foil attempt at unleashing terror on their community”.
He applauded the residents for mobilising against the attackers to stop them from carrying out their heinous crime against them.
Omeri said the actual number of casualties in the foiled attack had not been determined, adding that the federal government would soon make the figure available.
On the reported mutiny by solders against Maj.-Gen Ahmed Muhammed, GOC, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Omeiri said information on the issue was sketchy. He added that what transpired would soon be made known.
He said government would not join issues with anyone who claimed to know the whereabouts of the abducted Chibok girls.
“The government of Nigeria is responsible enough not to join issues with anyone who claims to know the whereabouts of the Chibok girls. (NAN)
“But efforts are on to do what is right by rescuing the abducted girls so that they can join their families in safe, sound and good health’’, he said.
The coordinator said the Nigerian Army was capable of rescuing the girls, adding that the US and other foreign experts were in the country to assist the army. (NAN)
