HYPPADEC ends 20 years of water challenges in New Bussa

The Managing Director, Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa has expressed satisfaction with the level and standard of the ongoing New Bussa water works total rehabilitation.
Yelwa made the disclosure during an inspection of the project in Borgu local government of Niger state, saying that the over 20 years moribund water works is experiencing total revival which is at 60% completion.
The MD also ordered the contractors to abide by the contract arrangements to ensure the completion as scheduled so as to commission the project by the end of October this year to end 20 years water predicament in New Bussa.
The HYPPADEC boss while inspecting the project visited the high lift, low lift, administrative block, pumping stations and ten million litres reservoir of the water works.
He applauded the governing council for the various projects approval for all the HYPPADEC states.
Yelwa expressed confidence that the well equiped project can meet the demand of the people through effective distribution of storage tanks to more areas consisting of over 16,000 households.
He stressed that New Bussa has no portable water and electricity despite hosting Kainji dam hence the need for intervention just as the cost of the project is N1.6 billion and similar project ongoing in Yauri, Kebbi state at the sum of N1.5 billion while other projects are ongoing in Kwara, Kogi, Benue and Plateau states respectively.
The Acting Managing Director, Niger state Water and Siwage Corporation, Engineer Gimba Yisa said that the project is a holistic rehabilitation which consist of new pumps, high and low lifts, entire re- treatment unit, new booster station and general maintenance of pipelines for effective and efficient service delivery.
He noted that the host community and stakeholders have been sensitized and mobilized on the payment of water bills on monthly basis to ensure maintenance and sustainability of the project to the benefit of the citizens.
One of the contractor, Utare Kokobisi in an interview disclosed that valves were replaced while some were ordered.
