The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, has taken over the party’s National Secretariat as the chairman of the National Working Committee (NWC) following the resignation of the former governor of Nasarawa, Abdullahi Adamu.
Kyari confirmed to journàlists yesterday at the NWC meeting of the party that Adamu has resigned his position as APC National Chairman over the weekend.
Adamu was reported to have tendered his resignation to the party’s National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
However, at about 10:40 am on Monday, the Deputy National Chairman led a team of seven other members of the NWC to a meeting in his office.
It was learnt that Kyari’s car was parked in the slot reserved for the National Chairman.
Around 11:20am, Omisore arrived at the secretariat and joined others in the meeting, but was allegedly barred from entering the conference room.
Similarly, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the resignation of the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made the announcement after the meeting of the NWC held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
He said: “As members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), we are here to address you to the happenings and recent developments regarding the party
“The NWC wishes to inform you the resignation of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and that of the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
“And with this development and according to the constitution of the All Progressive Congress (APC), it is now incumbent on my humble self Senator Abubakar Kyari as a Deputy National Chairman (North) to assume the office of the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“And subsequently also, the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuantar will now assume the office of the acting National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“And with this recent developments in the change of leadership, I will like to inform everybody here that the proposed National Caucus meeting slated for Tuesday, the 18th of July 2023 and the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Wednesday night 19 July 2023, are hereby postponed.
“And this postponement will not be indefinite but a new date will be communicated in the near future”, Kyari said.
