Church urges gov’t to formulates policies to strengthen families

The Church Christ of Latter -Day Saints, has urged government agencies, political Leaders and also relevant stakeholders to formulate Policies that would strengthen families.

The church made the call in the communique issued at the end of the 5th edition of “strengthen Families conference” organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Abuja.

Reading the communique while addressing journalists, yesterday, Abuja, Church director of communication for Lagos and Abuja chapter, Ikpe Nkanang, said that the African government should resist the pressures by the group who are anti-traditional marriages and families.

He also urged the ministries of education of all African countries should not yield to pressures to infiltrate the school curriculum with inappropriate content.

The communique read in part: “The ministries of gender, women, children and social protection in African countries should roll out social protection policies that empower and build the resilience of families.

“African countries should establish national awards for individuals and organizations that contribute to Strengthening families and traditional marriage values. ”

Communique further noted that marriage between a man and woman, is sacred, therefore couples should go into it with every sense of responsibility and conscious of the fact that families and marriages are under attack by different socio- cultural issues, they have a duty to make their marriage work

“Stronger nations are built on successful marriages and families and when marriage is recognised by couples as a union of equals, both the husband and wife will commit their God-given talents and resources towards the success of the families.”

While speaking on sustainability of the conference, state resident Abuja, Nigeria Wuse stake, Victor Eze, explained that majority of our people meet either in Churches Mosques and the communique given to them is to play bigger role deeper down and of the essence of this is to elicit interest from these groups that partners with us

“The church will ever be willing and ready to take this to wherever it needs them to be taken to . Some local churches have had a meeting immediately after the conference and take the message further down and committees would do everything with their parents to take message down to see how far we can go because it would be worth it .”
