Ndume distributes motorcycles, cash to Gwoza IDPs in Abuja

Date:

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South District, in the Nigerian Senate, yesterday distributed relief materials to hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Gwoza in Borno state, taking refuge in Abuja.
In particular, a total of 50 motorcycles and N100,000 (cash) were doled out to the IDPs from14 registered camps in the nation’s capital.
Distributing the items, Senator Ndume explained that five motorcycles each will go to four big IDPs camps while ten small camps will receive three motorcycles each.
He added that the cash gift will be divided into two batches (N50,000 each) and shared amongst women and men in all the IDPs camps.
Ndume further disclosed in two weeks time that grinding and sewing machines will be distributed to women, to empower them, to earn a living in the camps.
He informed the people that rehabilitation works are ongoing to ensure they return home in a more secured and comfortable place.
He decried that some of them are engaged in criminal activities in Kuchigoro and other camps as well as neighbouring Communities in the FCT.
He therefore urged the people to always expose and report anyone involved in criminality within the camps.
In his remarks, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido sympathized with the IDPs over their plight, due to displacement caused by the insurgency in the Northeast.
Candido equally expressed gratitude to the Senator for the gesture, describing it as a welcome development.
He therefore urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment items.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Councilor, City Centre Ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Dogara John Bassa, told guests at the event that the intervention would go a long to help ameliorate plight of the IDPs from Gwoza in Borno.
He said to ensure a fair distribution of the business support incentives, a bailout system will be used to select the lucky beneficiaries of the items.
