Kano state governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has appealed to judiciary to support his administration’s policies to enable it develop the state.
Governor Yusuf spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of the first female Chief Judge in the history of the state, Justice Dije Audu Aboki at the Government House, yesterday.
He said his administration had embarked on recovering assets illegally possessed by some individuals, seeking for judiciary ‘s support not to frustrate the efforts.
Yusuf, who insisted that his administration’s desire of demolishing illegal structures and recovering public properties were for the development of the state, wondered why the past administration could demolish schools, hospitals and other public places only to build corner shops and shopping complex for business, lamenting that some courts gave order stopping the government from taking actions.
The governor promised to renovate court buildings and recover those that were illegally misappropriated.
He described the relationship between the judiciary, legislature and executive as not competitive, but complementary, promising to continue to maintain cordial relationships among the three arms of government.
While congratulating Justice Dije, Governor Yusuf noted that her emergence as the new Chief Judge is not surprising considering her previous records.
He charged her to rise to the occasion and reform the sector in the State by addressing issues of judicial corruption and other irregularities bedeviling the sector in the State.
Abba Kabir pledged to accord her needed support while calling on other judicial officials to rally around her for better service delivery and also seek the help of the judiciary in the ongoing fight to recover public assets misappropriated by the previous administration.
In her remarks earlier, Justice Aboki promised to maintain what she described as cordial relationship between the three arms of government.
The new Chief Judge stated that, all hands must be on deck to restore the lost glory of the judiciary in the state while hoping for a stronger collaboration between the three alms of government in the state.
She thanked the governor for finding her worthy of the appointment, thinking her parents and husband, who according to her, are pillars to her success throughout her career.
