Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has declared that Nigeria would emerge a stronger nation from the current spate violent attacks being perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect.
Addressing the Federation of Muslim Women Associations (FOMWAN), who paid him a courtesy call in his office, the Speaker prayed for God’s guidance in the efforts at rescuing the over 200 schools abducted by the sect in Chibok, Borno state.
Earlier, FOMWAN Deputy National President, Hajiya Farida Sada Yusuf, urged the House to do all they could “to stop this carnage and the killing of children and their husbands”.
Farida Sada said their hearts were heavy, and bleeding with the continuous shedding if innocent bloods of Nigerians, and the escalation of violent attacks. “It behoves on all decent people to speak out against a wrong that has been camouflaged in various cloaks,” she said.
Citing several verses from the Holy Qur’an in denouncing the activities of the terrorists as contradictory to Islam, Sada said the group joins other Nigerians in lamenting “the portrayed inability of security agencies and elected representatives of the people to explain the phenomenon, apprehend culprits and halt this deadly trend.”
The group, therefore, demanded that government mobilize enough resources to fighting the insurgents, gainfully engage the youths through job creation, release the reports and White Papers from the various committees set up in the wake of the insurgency, and that lawmakers from the North-East identify with the people through visits and material supports amongst others.
