Adamawa: Investigate alleged murder of 17-yr-old student -Fintiri urges Police

The Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has asked the Police Commissioner in the state to investigate the death of a 17-year-old Senior Secondary Student (SSS) 2, Abdullahi Tukur Abba, following alleged torture by some security operatives.

Recall that the suspected torturous operatives attached to operation Farauta unit had allegedly tried to cover up the case, in the wake of increasing condemnations and tension seeking justice for late Abba, in the state.

However, a statement issued in Yola, on Friday, by the chief press secretary to the Governor, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou expressed the sadness of Governor Fintiri and his government over the unfortunate development threatening the peace in the state.

“Governor Fintiri, who frowns at the unfortunate development, had ordered the Police to begin intensive investigation into the matter, in order to take up the case against those involved if anything shady was discovered.

“Abdullahi is said to have been arrested at his home on the orders of his neighbor who claimed he stole his GSM phone.

“The Governor is appealing for calm as the investigation is ongoing. While identifying with the family of the deceased over their loss.

“The life of every Adamawa citizen matters and therefore the Government will ensure justice is seen to be done while also protecting the rights of all peace-loving people of the State,” the statement read in part.

Checks reveal that before his death, Late Abba was arrested by the operation Farauta’ on 5th August for alleged theft of a mobile phone from a neighbour; an allegation, he had denied vehemently, but was purportedly tortured to stupor by the security personnel.

But, after four days, Abba was confirmed dead by authorities of Modibbo Adamawa University Teaching hospital Yola, while on admission.

According to the Lawyer for the family of the deceased, Barrister Abubakar Hamman Diram the student died after spending four days in a critical stage of coma in the hospital.

Not left out, the deceased father, Dr. Tukur Abba, vowed that he would file a court case against the people, who lodged the complaint with Operation Farauta as well as those who caused his son’s death.
