Vice President, Namadi Sambo has called on Muslims across the country to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria at such trying times as this.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the ‘National Prayer for Peace and Security’, which took place at the National Mosque yesterday, Vice-President Sambo reasoned that “when any adverse situation befell the Ummah during the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Sahabah, their greatest weapon was resorting to prayers to seek for Allah’s intercession.”
While calling on the Muslim clerics to apply modesty in their sermons and preaching, VP Sambo also implored Muslims to try and live in peace with their neighbours, be good and kind, which could help revamp the image of Islam in the face of injury inflicted on it by Boko Haram.
“Muslims should not allow the few disgruntled elements among us to portray Islam and Muslims in bad light”, he said.
The Vice-President reiterated that the Federal Government is working earnestly to secure the missing Chibok school girls who have been kidnapped some 42 days ago by the Boko Haram sect.
He further appreciated the foreign countries and neighbors who have come to Nigeria’s aid to help combat terrorists’ insurgence.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his part, stressed that justice, equity and fairness is relative to the maintenance of peace in the society, He therefore urged Muslims leaders to shun corruption and any acts that will affect the development of the state.
